Social Norms and Models

This week, we spent time discussing the different social models. Every kind of social model that there is in the world are all different. There are also theories involving social models that we have discussed that we see in society today. Some of which we have discussed involve people who are a certain way because of free will, biological, social, or trauma response. Those are some of the factors of why a person behaves, acts, or is a certain way.               Since it is a very sensitive subject, we also focused and thought about how ourselves and others can provide support for those who act or behave a certain way based on trauma response. Some of the ways that we can show support for them is to validate in a way that is not more harmful to the person, see them for what they are. Even though we spent time focusing on those social models, we also focused on the possible reasons why and the conclusion that I came to p...

Family Ideals and Roles

During the week in class, we took time to talk about the marital and family ideals that we see in the world and taking more time talking about how those roles go along with those ideals. The typical ideal that we see in marital, parental, and subsystem is that in that system the married couple is at the center of the system being providers and caretakers of the children. In a way that I’d like to share this involves an example of using the Solar System idea. And the children orbit around the parents, meaning they live with them and they are being taught by them to help them prepare when they have their own family and for the next phase of their lives in becoming independent. The parents and the children are meant to have connections with each other to love each other, teach one another, and communicate together. Parents in the marital relationship are setting...

Essential Family Roles

Throughout the week in my class where we are learning about family relationships, we spent an entire session focusing on the different roles that each family member has in the family. What surprised me is that I didn’t even know that there were any roles that families, including children had in their families. For example, some of the roles that the families have are different, parents are meant to provide and keep a safe place for their children to grow. Children are only meant to grow, enjoy, and learn while growing up in that safe place for them. The children in those families at a young age, may not realize that they already have a role that helps and contributes to the family. Speaking from personal experience, my only role as a young child, my role was to do well in school, make sure I help out at home with whatever my family may need, keep myself clean and responsible, and enjoy myself by having fun with friends or family. Of course, throughout time, roles can change d...
